- Wostawea Social/Awards Ceremony – March 4 at Kingswood
- Track attack back country ski at Kouchibougouac, March 11 – A backcountry weekend is planned to give Track Attackers a backcountry winter experience.
- Many newcomers to the club may not know of one of our more celebrated members, George LeFeuvre. George, a Wostawean member for many years is known internationally for his ski trail grooming expertise, and has been a keen mentor for our Wostawean grooming team. George will be inducted into the Newfoundland & Labrador Sports Hall of Fame on April 14, 2012 in the Builder category.
George has been involved in the sport of cross-country skiing for 34 years. His career as a volunteer trail groomer and track setter has taken him from the trails of Labrador City to the Calgary Olympics, around the Nordic World, and in 2010 back to Canada to the Vancouver Olympics. He has volunteered at 6 Olympics, 12 FIS World Nordic Championships and World Cup Races on the international level and many National and Provincial ski events.
In the 1970s George was one of the founders of the Menihek Nordic Ski Club when the first pass of trail grooming was done on snow shoes. He has set track for skies of all ages and abilities; young Jackrabbits, enthusiastic Loppeters, and elite athletes.
Congratulations George, the club is honoured to have such a valuable member of the cross country ski community as one of our own!!!
- Other Info
Due to amount of Wostawea information that is sent out every week, I thought that I would cut back on providing information on New Brunswick Loppets and Races. If you are interested in these events, please go to the New Brunswick Cross Country website, I have included a link to the calendar
- Email list – it has come to my attention that a certain member of our Wostawea Executive (El Presidente) whose name shall remain nameless, but first name begins with “R” and ends with “aymond” has been negligent in getting his registration in. He has asked for a reprieve of one week, so that he can remain on the email list. Well, being a democratic club, we will extend this to all club members. Next week the axe will fall on the old email list, and the weekly email updates will be based on this year’s membership list. Therefore, to continue to get the updates, you need to register.
- New for this year, the club has decided to give each club member, a tag identifying Wostawea club members. As this is a new program, we will be giving out these tags to members every Saturday morning during our ski lessons. If you have not received your tag, come by to Killarney this weekend, or to Odell the following weekend. The purpose of the tag is simply to identify skiers as Wostawea members, and to help promote our club on the trails in the Fredericton area. There is no requirement to wear these tags.
- Online Registration
After much huffing, puffing and pontificating, the Wostawea Club has decided to offer Online Registration. You can register at: Zone 4 - Wostawea ONline Registration , or access this URL from the Wostawea website membership page. You will need a Visa or Mastercard. Other than automating the transaction, registering online saves time for your Wostawea volunteers – so they can focus their energy on what they do best: Making sure you get the most out of the 2011-12 cross-country skiing season! Registration services are offered through Zone 4, a Canadian company out of Alberta that specializes in Skiing registration, endorsed by Cross Country Canada, and Cross Country New Brunswick. A special thanks to Robert Morimanno, our Treasurer, for taking the extra time to work through this process.
There is no additional fee to register Online!
Regarding Wostawea Club Membership Cards – because so many people have registered online, it has required us to change how we distribute Club membership cards. Therefore, this year, we will use our existing registration list, and send out these cards by email. Simply print off the card form, and sign it. I will send these out over the next few days.
Hope to see everyone at our Loppet!! Get out and ski!!!
Please keep supporting our partners, Kingswood and Radical Edge (all club members receive a 15% discount on cross country ski equipment),
Cheers
Eric L.
