Wostawea News - March 3, 2016

Hello Wostaweans. Tough week for us skiers. However, we still have our Snowtacular social Saturday, 6:30 pm at the Delta – more information below. Hope to see all of you there, and we can sing the Wostawea Blues. Here are this weeks updates.

Snowtacular Year End Celebration – We are holding our annual celebration at the Delta Fredericton on Saturday March 5th. Doors open at 6:30pm and there will be Jackrabbit awards, a raffle for a complete ski Package from Radical Edge, a raffle for a Delta gift certificate, the Volunteer of the Year Award, light nibblies and a cash bar. Local R&B band Sugarbomb will be on stage from 8pm to help you boogey out those winter blues. $10 charge for adults, free for children. All are welcome. We hope to see you all there!

Wostawea Funday, Saturday morning – March 5 – Cancelled! Due to the poor and icy conditions at Killarney, we will have to cancel our Funday. If the weather does change, and we are able to have a fun event later in March, we will send out an email to the club membership

Wostawea Trails (UNB Woodlot and Kingswood) – Both the Wostawea Trails, and Killarney Lake trails are not being groomed due to lack of snow/icy conditions. Please check the blog site for trail condition updates: http://unbwoodlotski.blogspot.ca

We have cancelled Killarney Lake Lodge openings until conditions improve.

Other Events – For those that mind doing some travelling, there are some great snow conditions to the north and west of us. Best bets are PresQue Isle in Maine, and Charlo. Here are some events worth considering:

2016 Himie Towle Memorial Winter Frolic in Presque Isle Maine – Saturday March 5th – please see the link for more information. This is a fun race/loppet at the Maine Nordic Heritage Center in PresQue Isle Maine. Snow conditions are great, and only 2 hours from Fredericton. Make sure you bring your passport. http://nordicheritagecenter.org/event-2178498

Maritime Nordic Marathon - Sunday March 6 in Charlo – Please see attachment for details. Distances range from 4 to 42 km. They have had close to two feet of snow over the last week (when we got rain, they got snow)

Tour du Canada – March 1 to 12 – The World Cup skiers are in Canada, including Quebec City, Montreal, Gatineau and Canmore. Races can be seen on CBC website under sports section. Sprints are in Quebec City tomorrow.  http://skitourcanada.com/en/

See you Saturday night!
